I didn’t realize you came to Harry Potter late, too. I was out of the loop myself for about as long. I was visiting relatives in Maine when my sister-in-law put the first book in my hands. The next day, I asked if I could borrow the second. The rest, as they say, is history. I’m glad you’re finally at peace with your love of kidlit. I remember asking my mom for recommendations when I was struggling with PPD after the birth of my second child and she suggested Anne of Green Gables. Those books were lifesavers for me. They brought light into my darkness and helped me get through an extremely difficult time. I love kidlit and I’m thankful that there are authors working hard to write high-quality stories for young people — and any people who long for light and magic in their lives.
Beautifully said! The Anne series is also one of my favorites (I have all eight, if you haven’t read them all). I bet we have a lot if the same books.
